Connecting to the Character's Feelings

Thula came home with a work sheet she had completed in school. The assignment was to write about the story they had read in class and then connect it to an event it reminded them of in their own lives. From what Thula wrote, the story was about a hungry dog who no one wanted to feed. She then wrote, "That is like my life because I felt sad when I didn't get any food when my dad sad I eat to much. We both felt sad about it." Then the teacher wrote off to the side, "Thula, try and connect with a different event."
Then the following week she comes home with the same assignment different story and says that the story reminds her of when "robbers came to our home and she was really scared." And her teacher writes, "Thula, did that really happen?!"

Thula, you have some 'splain' to do!

First of all, it's so crazy to think that Thula can write now.

Secondly, she has quite the imagination!

I love reading kids writing! That's funny about the robbers, hopefully she is just making it up.

What an imagination! And where is she getting her impressions? I don't remember being that creative as a kid, but I think Thula has a career as a writer ahead of her. :)
